Processes

The Processes column in a SIPOC diagram includes all of the major processes that exist within the overall process that is being mapped.

Here are some Processes column examples –

  • Check in a passenger at the airport
  • Run a report query to create a dataset
  • Process a customer complaint at a call center
  • Disposition a quantity of defective inventory

When completing the Processes column it’s best to note the starting and ending processes first, to provide a clear scope for the SIPOC exercise.

The Processes column is normally the first column completed in a SIPOC exercise, followed by the Outputs, Customers, Inputs, and Suppliers columns.
